The Jewelry Designing Business

Are you a new successful beginner or an experienced jewelry designer? There is a question or a dilemma which we all face when selling our jewelry line. It is how many times do we keep making the same design repeatedly and when do we return to creating new designs.

The jewelry designing business has its twists and turns and its unexpected surprises. Any business which demands creativity will always have its challenges and its rewards.

When working as an employee for another type of business. I began thinking in terms of how I would operate my business and so I viewed and learned their business as on the job training. I witnessed a situation where the owners catered to regular customers thinking that this was their steady income and did little to attract new business.

This is not good folks. Because when the regular customers started leaving as their lives changed; the business had a problem.

Lesson learned from this experience:

Maintain regulars, but keep attracting new customers to have ongoing success.

Yes, keep making the jewelry which sells producing a steady income. BUT, keep your creativity active by creating new designs. You will fail along the way. But without those failures how will you discover a new successful line?

Here is another question. Is the design a failure or are you entering it into the wrong market? The jewelry designing business is demanding of your creativity, but you will need to investigate the product line of other companies to market your new designs.

As artists in the jewelry designing business, we need to fuel our creativity or we give up to a job status of performing factory production work.

If your line is becoming a factory item you may wish to sell your design to another company for a set amount of dollars or operate your own factory hiring others to do the assembly work providing you with a steady income.

Others performing the production work will allow you to focus on creating new pieces. You may not have intended to sell your patent to a company or to operate a factory. But in either case you are pocketing the profits of your enterprise.

You may not have intended to manage your creations, but this is a function of the business world. This is a desired outlet for acquiring multiple sources of income.

Creativity is an active flowing river with twists and turns. The jewelry designing business is your ticket for a current and future business. If you do better designing for others than you do for yourself, do it. It is still a business. You are in the business of creating and they are in the business of manufacturing or retailing. If you can do all...go for it!
